19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a torrid period, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with long-term coach his previous coach.

Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after that period of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has won 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

His retrieving approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, supported by an better serving game.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to create a final set.

The opponent rescued four early chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
