Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Police then located numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police report early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for information.

An important political figure said the vandalism left him speechless and required to be solved promptly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
